Tagging
I'm curious about how we should tag things like artists. On one hand, using "artist:*name*" is simple, it does pool all of them together, instead of just whatever particular one a person may search for. I'm wondering if we should use "*name*_(artist)" to make it less confusion. Of course, just tagging with the artist's name seems to work, at least for ones who use a unique name that wouldn't get mixed up with a normal tag.

No, don't do that.

It messes with the searching parameters boorus use.

If you search for "artist name" you'll get "artist name" even if "artist:" is in front of it.

But if you do "artist name_(artist)" searching for just the artist's name won't give you any results.

Same with series.

But then you just end up getting everything in a search when you type "series"

Though I don't see why it's wrong to just use the names for a series, since as long as each image related is tagged with it, it shows up.

Some series names aren't obvious and some names are also the names of characters in them. Some people just like using the search function instead of clicking on tag links to find things in a hurry.

Adding series: before the series name is so everything is standardized.

Series itself isn't a stand alone tag that is applied to anything, so there's no problem in having everything that's from a series show up when you search for series.

It just seems like the "series:*name*" thing is bugged because whenever I enter just "series" alone, it brings up EVERYTHING, instead of nothing like more incomplete searches. As for names, it really wouldn't be that hard to do things like "resident evil" for the RE series, "the legend of Zelda" and so on. Granted, things like Naruto could be confusing, but I usually go with the danbooru style of using the name for the series tag, while using the character's full name for character tags.

Well we're not danbooru here.

And I'm not sure I follow with the "nothing like more incomplete searches". You mean you're trying to find things that aren't from any particular series? Tag those with "original" then if you need something like that.

It became standard to do "series:" when I saw someone else tagging pics like that on here and it made a hell of a lot more sense than what I saw elsewhere or not adding series at all when we knew which series the pics are from.

And not having series at all just feels like we're being lazy.

And if none of that convinces you, cut me some slack already, I'm the one who has had to upload and tag like 90% of all the content on here.

Just saying, the whole "series" thing for everything doesn't seem that necessary. Wouldn't really be lazy. If something is from "The legend of Zelda", then it's just tagged as such. I get using the series for something where it's the same as the main character, but even that shouldn't be too hard to sort out. It's just odd how you'd have to type out "series:*name*" to get something instead of just "name of series". I don't know, it's weird how these sub-boorus don't seem to have as much ease as danbooru for it's tagging.

I thought I said before that when series: is in front of something you can still type out whatever is after the series: and still get the same result asi if series: wasn't there.

Ex

search "metal_gear" and you get all the results for "series:metal_gear"
The series: doesn't effect the search.

But search "metal_gear" and anything tagged "metal_gear_(series)" doesn't show up.

I meant if you type the word "series" itself alone, you wind up with everything. As for Metal Gear. Everything should be tagged in relation, at least the last time I saw any related to that.

I fail to see the problem with ending up with everything with a series tag when you just search for "series" as the word isn't used for anything other than denotation of the series the pic is from.

I don't know. I still don't see much of a problem with just using the name of a series in place of series: name of series. Again, it is odd how the tagging doesn't seem to work quite as well as it does on danbooru and gelbooru. In that I mean those seem to make it easy to create series marking tag.

Whatever, it just seems odd.

If I could make the series and artist tags a different color than all the others, I would.

It is something to consider eventually, as that would help organize things a little better.

Until the day someone with admin powers decides to pay us some mind, I'd appreciate it if we could stick to the tagging conventions I've been using for the past 8 months.

I'm sick of tagging and don't want to have to deal with it anymore than I have to.

Not like some of the changes were that intrusive.

I don't mean to sound like it's a bad thing, I'm glad someone is actually giving pics a more thorough tagging.

I'm just tired of doing it is all.

And when I tag something and then see that all of a sudden it's the only pic on the booru tagged with something I know I tagged dozens of other pics with, it just sets off something in my brain.

Not sure what could have happened then. I tried retagging all the Zelda stuff "The Legend of Zelda" and it seems to work fine. But again, it does seem like we need to get a person with mod power to help make the tagging system not so quirky.
